Sharon C. Dalton, is vice president, Corporate Relations, where she leads the localization of the Aetna Foundation’s grantmaking in its priority communities, executive-sponsored corporate public involvement activities, and foundation and philanthropic relationships.
During her tenure with the Aetna Foundation, she has helped to shape the organization’s philanthropic strategies and programs, and has forged partnerships with nonprofit organizations across the nation. She has led the development and execution of several major health grant programs and was instrumental in directing the refocusing of the Aetna Foundation’s grant programs and operations for 2010 and beyond. She also has managed the Foundation’s communications efforts, including its annual giving reports and the evolution of its web presence.
In previous roles at the Aetna Foundation she has been instrumental in advancing Aetna’s commitment to volunteerism and diversity, including the Aetna Voice of Conscience Award program, which honored Arthur Ashe, and publication of the book Breaking Barriers – Celebrating 27 Years of The Aetna African American History Calendar.
Her career with Aetna began in the company’s property and casualty insurance business. She then served in Aetna’s office of the chairman before joining corporate public involvement and the Aetna Foundation in 1992. Prior to her work at Aetna, she held management roles in customer service and accounting for Allstate Insurance Company.
She holds an MBA from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Hartford and earned her BA from Fairfield University in Connecticut.
